I see that the link takes me to Farnell in the UK/Europe. I can also buy this board from a couple of USA based distributors. Are they the same board?

i got one today from RS and looking forward to the exercises ,that will all work ,unlike the hassles with arduino and PIC . long may they prosper . if it works out OK i will get the NXP board and motherboard as well .

I was planning to get one of these boards. However, the deal with Farnell is not very attractive to me. When I try to get one from Farnell in the UK the minimum order sale is 20 pounds plus shipping. When I try to order with Farnell in the Netherlands they dont seem interested at all in doing business with non-corporate customers: the minimum order is 50 Euros (plus VAT, plus shipping, plus some other conditions)!

Just bought 2 pcs of FRDM-KL25Z from Farnel UK (and one plastic box to fill that requirement of minimum 20£ order). Anyhow now the question, in the getting started with mbed instructions is said: "All mbed hardware appears as USB mass storage device. To start, simply plug it in, open the MBED.HTM file on the drive that appears and you’ll be able to register on the site." but in my case the MBED.HTM file is missing from the hardware. In this case how to get started ? No matter if i boot it to BOOTLOADER or to FRDM-KL25Z mode (This does not boot as 'MBED' as described on the getting started instructions).

I did also made an upgrade using the file mbed_if_v2.0_frdm_kl25z.s19 and it was succeeded as i can see 'Ready' after booting to FRDM-KL25Z mode

Hi Vesa,

Did you follow these instructions to upgrade your FRDM-KL25Z? You have to enter in BOOTLOADER mode and then drag n drop the mbed_if_v2.0_frdm_kl25z.s19 file. When you then unplug/plug the board again, the board should appear as MBED.

I made a retry to update the firmware and now it appparently appear as a 'MBED' after USB re-plugging, great. Previously it was functional all the way but it just did not appear as 'MBED' and therefore I did not make any further trials of mbed. (I was able to build, flash and incircuit debug software using IAR IDE).

Roman: I assume there is no matter if using Ubuntu or Windows, if we are talking about the firmware update using mbed_if_v2.0_frdm_kl25z.s19. There is just need to see a USB MMC device in file system on any computer/operating system. Anyhow good luck :)

Hi guys This board is exceptional, runs all my existing LPC1768 code without trouble even though half the CPU speed.

A little concerned with the production life of the Mbed LPC1768, hope this continues against the competition of this board.

simply because of the low CPU pin count. Ideal for building into projects after prototyping as it will be easier to solder to a PCB similar to the Atmega 32 pin CPU.

I have loaded the Mbed firmware and it does flash the green led if I load an Mbed Bin file, but it does not work. It uses the same core M0+ CPU.

Any ideas if it can be used with Mbed? the CPU only cost £1.19 +vat and would be ideal for use after prototyping.

I am trying to use the mbed-rtos library on the FRDM-KL25Z, it seems that the mbed-rtos library isn't support this target board yet, right?

This is very great news! I always wanted to try mbed but the financial investment is too great with the original one.. this Freedom board will be a good stepping stone to try out the mbed platform. If this works well then there will be less hesitation in buying the real mbed.

I understand that there are already alot of library for mbed developers. Are there any getting started examples for this Freedom board? E.g. making use of the LED, accelerometer, and capacitive sensor already on the board? This will be a great introduction to newbie like me to jump into the exciting mbed world. Thanks in advance.

I am a mac user and bought 2 of the FRDM-KL25Z boards. I thought it would be easy as I have used the MBED board for a lot of projects with success! As I am retiring and no longer have access to Windows XP PC I am stuck with no resolve in using the new boards. I tried to get the Bootloader to work in my Windows but the device drivers etc. won't recognize the device without errors. Totally frustrated and had to let some know that.

One suggestion to Freescale, the USB connectors should have some kind of mechanical latch to the PSB. One of the onboard USB connector in my KL25Z just came out.
