Modules provide a dependable core Mbed OS platform that pre-integrate the MCU, connectivity, front-end, software and services needed at the heart of devices. They can be used for prototyping through to mass production, and are comprehensively end-to-end system tested with Mbed OS.
Hardware components extend the capabilities of your module or MCU, and include the associated software libraries for Mbed OS to make use of them. Components and the associated libraries, examples and documentation are created by component manufacturers and other Mbed developers.
Boards provide the development or production platforms that integrate MCUs or modules with components to make a system that Mbed OS runs on. Those featured here are most often designed for evaluation and rapid prototyping and include debug and peripheral connection options used ahead of custom board designs.
The Mbed Enabled program identifies Mbed-compatible products that have met our compliance criteria as well as our quality and technical requirements, including connectivity. For more information about the Mbed Enabled program, read our Mbed Enabled criteria .

"Arm Mbed OS enabled us to make product changes even including the processor itself, without losing development time - improving our own agility and allowing us to bring products to market on schedule where such a change before might have set us back months. We're not alone. Since we launched our Mbed Enabled devices, we have accumulated nearly 3500 developers who have collectively imported our libraries more than 16,000 times to innovate and deploy unique IoT applications quicker than they could before."
"At u-blox, we've found that one of the most effective ways to grow the IoT ecosystem is to make product development easier, more efficient, and more affordable. Say a customer wants to develop a wireless gateway - by running their applications on our module's internal MCU, they can reduce the number of components they need, optimizing cost while at the same time increasing the portability and flexibility of their design. With Arm Mbed, we found the right software development tools to let customers easily run their own applications right on the module."
