New microcontroller book uses mbed!

For anyone who might be a beginner to C and Microcontrollers, Elektor have just published a book called "ARM Microcontrollers (part 1) - 35 projects for beginners"...

Mine just arrived in the post, so here is a sneak peak:

You can see the mbed in the little circle at the bottom. Apparently this photo was taken outside the old castle that Elektor is based in!

Here is a look at the contents page to give you an idea of the skill level it is aimed at:

You can find it on the Elektor website, and they are even selling it with a little starter kit bundle so it could be a great intro for someone wanting to get started.

We've also created a new cookbook page to collect together useful books, so if you know of any useful ones for new and seasoned developers alike, please feel free to add them:

  • Books - Books about mbed, microcontrollers, embedded programing and development

I would very much like to add a description plus my own review of William Hohl's "ARM Assembly Language, Fundamentals and Techniques". However, I haven't a clue how to go about adding it to the Books page. If I made the info available as, say, a Word file, would someone be willing to do this for me?

I am fairly new to the world of micro's and programming, so I bought this book about 6 weeks ago as an aid to my steep learning curve in this field. I must say it is an excellent introduction to the mbed and for me, filled in the gaps that are inevitably left between handbook, cookbook and forum. It walks you through several projects explaining in detail the code as it goes along and it is very 'hands on' getting you to hook up some common peripherals such as buttons, sensors, servos and motors. All useful stuff if you are thinking of applying the mbed to practical projects, which I suppose most people are. In summary, I have learnt more about C programming and the mbed in the last six weeks or so than I had purely from this website in the last few months. For me as a beginner this book is a must have, and I can't wait for the next publication.
