mbed text book now available

Finally, after months of hard work by Rob Touslon and Tim Wilmshurst, their textbook "Fast and effective embedded systems design - Applying the ARM mbed" is now available from amazon:

Just to prove it is real, here is a copy sitting on my desk!

The book is a theoretical approach to many of the topics covered in the Course Notes that Rob has previously published. Now that the book is complete Rob will be working on finalising the slides ready for release. Any last bits of feedback are welcome.

Amazon will give you a the opportunity to leaf through the pages, but below is couple of pages to give you an idea.

Hi Yi,

Which Amazon are you looking at? We ordered a from www.amazon.co.uk and got it a few days ago. I notice they are now showing 11 days delivery. I guess they didn't have a huge stock initially.

The important thing is that they are printed, and entering circulation!

Cheers, Chris

Thanks for your reply, Chris. I thought you are located at US so I checked www.amazon.com which is in US. Probabely, I have to wait one more month to get this fatastic book.

Cheers,

Yi

Bummer, mine is still on pre-order from Amazon US. They are listing it as being available Sept 3...Cost to order from Amazon.co.uk is only $10 more and I'll get it 2 months before the US amazon can ship. Done! Looking forward to it!

That's one of the things I regret about living in Brazil. Everything take ages to get here and it is too expensive. Almost the same price of the book. That's a deal breaker for me. Pity, I would love to have this book.

I got mine today. When I ordered it amazon.co.uk said it would be available in September, then sent me a message saying it would be ready earlier than expected. I had a read on a bus today and so far I'm liking it. The book starts with an intro/overview of microcontrollers and embedded systems and then the Cortex M3 and LPC1768 specifically. I skipped ahead and read through the chapters on timing and interrupts. Before I knew it I was in London and had to get off the bus.

Thinking of buying this book, but could you preview a few pages of something relating to applying the mbed and code development please.

Like Nick I'll skip over the intro, which unfortunately is all that's previewed on Amazon!

It would be good to know what level of reader the book is aimed at.

There is a Google preview with plenty of content at http://books.google.com.au/books?id=a-aWgVmA-x0C&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false. I've bought it; it is not perfect but I would rate it a worthwhile purchase for any mbed user.

Any chance of mbed giving some of these away for free as a token or loyalty to its members?

I ordered this book and created a spreadsheet of all the parts needed in the back of the book. Looks like it would cost about $850 plus tax & shipping to work through all of the examples in it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1z1KHcui3rv6xiYo5EZCGPfNsEb-Vu4hVBrIW9wdMHhs

That seems awfully high?
