Where is the source for the demo that comes with the board when purchased? I can't find it online anywhere obvious.

Hello,
This is included in the STM32CubeF4 package.
download it here (at the bottom of the page) and unpack.
The demo you are looking for is in the \Projects\STM32F429I-Discovery\Demonstrations\ subdirectory
You will find the source code and precompiled binary there.
