How much power can be sourced from VOUT?

Hi,

I want to power an 1x xbee radio, 3x Pololu TB6612FNG Dual Motor Drivers (Item #713) and power several digital IO pins. Can I use the 3.3v regulated line for all of these at once?

How much current can be sourced through the Vout pin?

Cheers,

Jay

On this page here: http://mbed.org/handbook/mbed-NXP-LPC1768 you can find the mbed schematic. From this you can find out that the onboard voltage regulator is an LD1117S33. Its datasheet can be found here: http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/L/D/1/1/LD1117S33.shtml.

From this datasheet you can see that the output current is rated as 800/950/1300 mA MIN / TYP / MAX when Vin = 8.3 V and TJ = 25°.

Hope this helps.

If you are using USB power from the PC, the 5V USB power from a PC is limited to around 460MA total (USB specs). The mbed can use up to about half of that, so a DC motor really needs external power. We use some small AC wall wart style DC power supplies for motor power when hooking up motors or RC servos.

Thanks Scott and Jim! Both answers have been very helpful.
