Arduino SoftSerial equivalent

Not 100% certain with this, but empirically, it seems it's okay to call any digital pin combination a serial connection with Serial. On the LPC812-MAX I'm receiving characters from a GPS module on P0_12, P0_15; however it does't work with P0_6, P0_8. (I seem to remember reading about that P0_6, P0_8 - it's not a bug, rather a design thingy).
