A six inch USB cable is kind of short, can longer USB cables be used?

The cable that comes with the docking station that is required to program the Hexiwear device is very short. Can longer cables be used or are there possible signal integrity issues with a longer USB cables?

IIRC The USB spec calls for up to 5 meters of cable to be supported, it would have to be a pretty poor implementation of USB to not manage more than 6 inches.

Right I would hope so, but there was an issue like this on some other mbed boards awhile back with USB cables (but perhaps only with cheap USB cables and some PCs?). I got a bit paranoid after my docking station stopped working and it seems to be firmware related.
