Is STM32F429I-DISCO supported with mbed classic?

I am new to ARM and mbed development, but have experience with 8-bit MCUs.

I recently purchased an STM32F429I-DISCO board and I wanted to know if it supports the existing wealth of mbed libraries and components.

The ST-Discovery-F429ZI is the same as the STM32F429I-DISCO with an upgraded STLink (STLinkV2-1 instead of STLinkV2) The drag and drop programming is not working with the STM32F429I-DISCO, as the STLinkV2 did not have this feature implemented.
If you don't want to buy a new hardware, you can still write your code and compile online using the ST-Discovery-F429ZI platform , save the binary somewhere on your PC and then use the free STLink Utility to load this binary into the MCU.

I'll try that when the board arrives

Note the limitations if you use MBED with this board:

Suggestion: Please consider to pickup up one of the many NUCLEO style boards for the ST series or some other. ST series are very low cost (about $ 10 - $ 15 USD) and are MBED ready using the online compiler tools. Honestly, you will not regret the investment !! Chime back if you have any questions before or after the purchase. There are great brains including staff from ARM constantly reaching out to assist. Very active forum.

May I recommend the following ?

For the (new) STM32F429 + MBED, believe the recommended tool with full features is:
