Do I need a sim card in order to experiment with u-blox CO27 ?

Do I need a working sim card in order to experiment with u-blox CO27 ? I would like to make a call from u-blox CO27 to my smart phone ? Can I use skype if I don't have a working sim card ?

Yes you need a SIM card and valid subscription to connect to cellular network. The C027 allows you to send data or sms. There is no speaker or microphone, so you can't do any voice calls.

Is there the possibility to enable voice calls by adding external circuits?!

So why do I need the u-blox C027 ? I can use a cellular phone to call with voice. The u-blox c027 is just a a phone without valid subcsription SIM card. Any reason to justify to buy the u-blox CO27? Thanks

The u-blox C027 is a development platform not a cell phone. It happens to have a GSM module to transport data or messages.
