Added new developer: repo doesn't show in their dashboard--WHY?

I have had this problem several times, where I have added a developer to a repo via the repo's admin settings, or a read-only access user, and then the repo doesn't show in their dashboard.

Here are the details: Private repo Associated with a team New developers are not members of the team (want to grant access to a single project, not all projects)

But if I send them a link, they can access the repo via the link.

Any suggestions? Should the repo show up in their dashboard, or, is the modus operandii to always have to send a link if they aren't on the team?
