About the development of products useing mbed

31 May 2010

Hello.
mbed is a beginner, but is impressed by a function of embed.

There is two questions

(1)When I sell the product which include mbed , is there any limit?
(2)Is there the promise that I continue a compiler and can use?

Thanking you in advance.

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, mbed is certainly new, and we hope to keep making it better!

1) The mbed hardware and libraries are free for commercial and non-commercial use. We would probably expect that if you were building a product in any significant volume you'd put down the raw LPC1768 MCU on your own PCB.

2) Yes, you can continue to use the compiler for your project development, even if it is commercial or targeting an LPC1768 on your own board.

Dear mbed forum....I know this is an OLD post - but I hope someone will find their way in here to help me! Ok - so I'm not that good at all to read terms, license agreements and other not-so-technical documentation ;o)

I'm aware, that the hardware is open source - and I do realize, if I need to develop and sell a product (in larger scale?) I would benefit from making my own HW design. However - let's say, that I just "don't feel like" doing my own PCB and HW layout - am I allowed to use the physical mbed board in a commercial product?

I can't really tell from the forum threads and the documentation in the handbook/cookbook.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ulrich,

Yes you can use it in a commercial product, although be aware that is not what we designed it for.

And now the HDK is available as the next step designed to make it easy to make your own custom mbed-enabled hardware, so certainly consider that too!

Hope that helps,

Simon
