mbed with parallax sd adapter kit

Hi,

I have a parallax sd card adapter kit. I would like to use it with mbed. However, the adapter has 10 k SMD resistors for its 8 lines. They come unsoldered. So they need to be soldered by hand.

My question is: are these resistors necessary for working with a mbed?

I used this SD card adapter from SparkFun and the mbed Cookbook page for SD interfacing uses this adapter from SparkFun. The schematics for these two SparkFun adapters, http://sparkfun.com/datasheets/BreakoutBoards/SD_MMC%20Breakout-v10.pdf and http://sparkfun.com/datasheets/BreakoutBoards/microSD-Breakout-v14.pdf, don't include these pull up resistors.

Hello, I use SD card slot which I removed from friend's broken photo camera. I has no resistors and it works like a charm. There also can be used micro SD to SD adapter as cheap slot for micro SD cards.
