MBED now with SD card

After designing data loggers with my MBED(s), I quite often need storage: So the best solution is to use a uSD Card. Hear is a simple (and nearly free) mod, to connect a uSD To your next project.

All you need is a MINI SD card adaptor (yes the one you probably thrown away) A few lengths of fine wire, and a very steady hand.

Step 1: Connect the 7 wires to the MINI SD Card, it is best if you QUICKLY Pre-tin the contacts. Note Ground goes to TWO of the pads.

Step 2: Connect the remaining 6 wires to a two & four way piece of pin-strip.

Step 3: (only for the very brave) Instead of soldering to pin-strip, solder directly to MBED directly.

Finally: Using a small piece of uni-directional bonding material (Blue-Tackä) Stick the MINI SD adaptor to the LPC1768 chip (the big one) Taking great care not to short out any of the pins.

Useful and one less piece of plastic making it directly into the land fill :)

I will keep this in mind the next time I need to interface a SD card to my mbed.
