Hello mbedi (is that the right collective noun for many mbed users?!)
We (coolcomponents.co.uk) have just launched a very simple breakout board for USB-A connectors. Trivial maybe, but definitely useful!

Signals are broken out to breadboard friendly 0.1" spaced holes.
There are also similar breakout boards for USB-B sockets, and Magjack / Ethernet Sockets - all on a 0.1" grid.
