Best way to use signals in mbed-RTOS?

Due to the lack of detailed example programs and documentation the following testing programs were written to figure out how signals can be used in a program. I suspect the mbed developers is busy with mbedOS therefore the RTOS documentation is lagging behind. Really annoying problem for mbed-RTOS users.
