Short answer I don't think porting is needed.

I have not tried it but looking through Google play in the past I have found a terminal program that had apt-get and Linux commands prompt. I don't think it an emulator. You probably could use that for most of the software but I would not want to for the most part compling on a small arm computer wouldn't be good (slow) and would prefer to use the online one.

I looking in to this right now because I don't like listening to my computer when working on electronics it quite distracting. I going to be looking for USB adapter To plug into my my tablet and I believe it should act like a storage device.

I recently look on Google play for mbed and it showed a couple of serial terminals​ witch you should be able to get debug info out off. I would love to hear what others are doing I surprised that no one commented on this.
