damaged mbed

I brought a capacitor and thought it was a non polarized capacitor but it was polarized could I have damaged the mbed, or is it only the capacitor I should be concerned about right now.

I think polarisation is a capacitor issue, i.e. using it the wrong way damages the capcitor over time.
