RJ45 + POE schematics?

07 Jan 2012

Hi,

After reading the topic http://mbed.org/cookbook/Ethernet-RJ45, and beeing "less" knowledgeable on the magnetics department, i thought i'd better ask this and look dumb, in stead of blowing up 3 MBED's.

Has anyone experience in setting up an a DUMB RJ45 using POE? Or point me to a schematic / parts list for a female connector i can somewhat rugged install in the wall of a console?

I'm considering this: http://www.yds.com.tw/driver/drivers/13F-20XX%20Series%20PDF%20Catalogue.pdf behind a dumb RJ45.

I want to power 2 consoles (14 keys, an lcd and an MBED) over a 100Mbit network using POE and 10 - 15 meter cables. I feed the cable with 12V, and use an UBEC (mini switching power supply) to feed 5V to the MBED and the LCD.

Any insight would be welcome!

This is a low cost solution using the unused pairs (in 10/100 MBit mode) of a standard ethernet cable:

If you want to stick to the standard, there are plenty of POE Injector & Splitter on eBay. here are some Injector I used.
