Gmail won't send a .lib file (even if it's in a .zip)

07 Feb 2010

I wanted to give everybody a heads-up on the following:

Yesterday, I tried to email a zip of one of my mbed projects, but was denied by Google Mail (gmail) because my message contained an attachment that gmail thought had a binary.  I discovered that gmail does *not* allow attachments with the extension .lib even if the .lib file is contained in a .zip file.  Google enabled this draconian filter in an effort to prevent the spread of spam and virii.

Encrypt the zip file, possibly even try 7zip.
