For example select a single line by pressing the home key twice to get to the first column. Then use shift downarrow to select a line. Then press ctl-x. The text disappears leaving a blank line it its place. Then paste somewhere else and the pasted material pushes the existing contents to the right instead of appearing on its own line.
Multi line selections done as above will fail to remove one newline, but will remove the rest.
While we're at it, home used to go to column 1. Now it goes to the first character on the line, and a second press of home goes to column 1. I liked the old behavior better.
