Semtech @ Swisscom Hackathon
On November 6th - 8th, Swisscom invite you to join a gathering of many of Switzerland’s most talented programmers, makers, designers and entrepreneurs in the first ever Swisscom IoT Hackathon.
Within the near future, there will be a continuously increasing number of items, which will be equipped with sensors and that will interact and collect data, then communicate this data through the internet with users and systems. Swisscom provides these new, innovative technologies and infrastructure that enable connected devices to communicate with each other – indoor as well as outdoor. During the Hackathon`s 40 hours, Swisscom will provide the participating teams of programmers, makers, and designers exclusive access to its latest IoT technologies.
We invite you take advantage of this unique opportunity and join Switzerland’s first Internet of Things Hackathon and get acquainted with the technology that is set to play an essential role in the digital IoT landscape of the future.
Low Power Network
Digitalization is playing an ever greater role in our everyday lives. To enable devices to communicate more efficiently with each other in future, Swisscom is testing a network for the Internet of Things. This low-power network (LPN) is the first of its kind in Switzerland and connects devices that exchange only small amounts of data with each other and require only a minimal supply of power. Widely supported by Research Analysts, it is believed that LPN is highly complementary to traditional cellular networks such as 2G, 3G and 4G.
The Low Power Network (LPN) offers features such as:
- energy efficiency
- cost effective hardware integration
- long communication range
- good Indoor penetration
LPN has the potential to be leveraged to easily address new use-cases and create new market opportunities.
So what are the typical use cases where such a network would be useful? There are the obvious ones like smart water and gas meters, pet and people trackers. But what about pillbox, water Hydrant, parking spot, mailbox, chair or even an umbrella? With the Low Power Network we could connect such “simple things” and many more…
What’s your use case?
Want to get started early? After signing up for the event you will have the chance to participate in an introduction workshop to the LPN Developer Kit even before the event.
