mbed mounts as read-only file system on linux. Reformat did not work

My mbed keeps mounting as a read-only file system on my linux box. I followed the "Dead mbed" formatting instructions but I couldn't delete partitions as there were no partitions found by fdisk. Therefore, I couldn't reformat the device. Any suggestions? I can't download my programs while the device is in read-only mode.

You may be able to remount it read-write.

mount -o remount,rw /dev/sdxx /mount/point

If you're not sure what the device path is you can find it out by using mount with no arguments and finding the line that corresponds with the mount point.

Presumably you're using some system that auto-mounts the file system, what distro are you using?

I'm using Kubuntu 12.10
