Why does compiling sometimes not recognize the platform?

I am compiling an example application (BLE_eddystoneBeacon) for a standard devkit platform (NRF52_DK).

I have made no changes to the example application.

Sometimes when I click compile it says "Target NRF52_DK is not recognized" and the build fails.

Clicking compile again either results in success or the same failure. This appears to happen randomly. Why is this the case? Is the only compiler referencing a library on a remote server with intermittent connectivity? Is the IDE being rate-limited?

No changes are made between attempts. It's literally just pushing the "compile" button multiple times.

Now I got the same problem running my nRF52-DK dev kit (rev. 1.1.1 2016.36 with PCA10040)
