microphone, board, and power supply to use for outdoor aircraft noise monitor?
Hi - I'm interested in possibly creating an aircraft noise monitor using the mbed platform and components so citizens concerned about aircraft noise pollution could easily and cheaply monitor noise levels 24x7 for complaints and future FAA-compliant noise studies. Can anyone suggest good hardware components to use for this project? In particular:
1) What microphone should the physical monitor use? It must be able to function outdoors (e.g. be water and windproof). 2) What mbed-compatible hardware board should the physical monitor use to gather audio data and transmit to the mbed servers? 3) What power supply should the physical monitor use? (I'd want to run the monitor off of household power for the initial proof of concept Minimum Viable Product, so I'd need a power supply that could accept power from a standard outdoor extension cord.) 4) What waterproof enclosure should the physical monitor use?
This is a complete unfunded grass-roots effort, so keeping the equipment safe and low cost is a must. Full project details are here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jA_c-zREDWSy7R8JUrNbDF40q1x6AxVfyi1hxGikIV8
