Wireless communication mbed - mbed

Dear community/staff

I am working on an artistic project which will display a light pattern in many places across an aisle. The idea is to have various mbed devices that will display the independent light pattern in its location but these have to be coordinated through a 'master' mbed which will control the execution time of the rest.

Ideally I need wireless communication to perform this; however, the installation is not intended to have a PC or laptop controlling it as it is thought as an auto-controlled installation. Which kind of wireless communication would be the most adequate to communicate mbed to mbed with their own API - explicitly without web/mobile/pc program working as an interface-.

I am using mbed ARM LPC 1768
