you need to download terminal like putty or tera term.
I have been using teraterm from last 2 years and it is quite good.
1)Connect your mbed board to computer using usb cable
2) Download the required drivers from mbed website
3)Download teraterm from web
4) Now open teraterm and should be able to see mbed board 
you might need to change some of the terminal receive and transmit settings.
