Nordic nrf51822 UART RXD issue with Quectel L70 GPS

Hi,

We are using the Nordic NRF51822 SoC and MBED on our custom hardware. Pins p0.28 (UART_TXD) and p0.29 (UART_RXD) of the SOC is used for the serial interface with Quectel L70 GPS module. Hardware don't use any pin for serial flow control.

When the RXD signal of the nrf51 is connected to the L70 module TxD. The signal swings between 3.3V to 1.6V (unexpected). When the signal is disconnected. The TxD signal swings between +3.3V to 0V (expected).

1) Does anyone have any insight on such issue? 2) Is it necessary to use serial flow control signals (UART_CTS and UART_RTS) ?
