Can I control my webcam (USB PLUG AND PLAY) using mbed?

Hi, I needed to inquire if I can control my web cam (send it instructions to take pictures) from my mbed?

I have two usb ports avalible, on one I have connected my webcam on other my mbed, now I need to take a picture every time an input is applied on digital in pin. is this possible? if so, can some one help me out?
