Trouble connecting Freescale KL25Z to PC
I recently bought the Freescale KL25Z and I am having trouble connecting it to my PC (Windows 8.1, x64).
When I connect the device to my PC ("SDA" USB connector), it appears as FRMD-KL25Z with no files in it. I was only able to make the device appear as BOOTLOADER when pushing the reset button while plugging the device in my PC.
Trying to fix this, I downloaded the driver software from PEMicro. This made the yellow sign in my device manager disappear but did not change any other thing.
Then I tried to update the firmware according to the instructions on the website. After this the status LED would not flicker when plugging in the device. I was still able to open the BOOTLOADER with the status LED flickering.
I tried these steps on different USB ports on different laptops with different cables and have no idea why it is not working.
Thanks.

Solved! I do not know exactly how but I think it has something to do with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. After I updated the firmware again according to this website it worked on Windows 8, on Windows 8.1 the BOOTLOADER loop started again.
So I suggest if you are having problems the same kind of problems:
1. Update firmware according to mbed.org 2. Update firmware according to coocox.org 3. Update firmware according to pemicro.org
4. Update firmware, on a Windows 8.0 machine, according to mbed.org.
This seems silly but starting with step four did not work for me.
Just to be aligned, download the mbed firmware from http://mbed.org/handbook/Firmware-FRDM-KL25Z. The drive should be named "MBED". Report back if this helps or not.
I believe this firmware was updated few hours ago, to be compatible with windows 8.1.

I did, nothing has changed. After, I also tried updating the firmware with the file from http://coocox.org (using the disc in the box) and with the file from pemicro.com (using the SDA_INFO.HTM on the device in BOOTLOADER). Now the device always appears as BOOTLOADER even if I do not hold the reset button. However, I can see the files in BOOTLOADER now on my Windows 8.1 x64 PC.
