How to set 1 ms time delay at asm (the microprocessor 80386dx or 8086)???

Has this been resolved? I used to do low level assembly programming on the x86 family and had some code that would do fairly accurate timing as it was used in programming flash which required microsecond timings. It executed on a PC and may have used the RTC to calibrate the timing loop. robably have the code around somewhere.
