Accelerometer choices for Touchpad recipe

(I posted this in the other forum, but seeing how people in this one are more open to offering n00bs advice, I am going to try posting it here.)
It looks like Freeescale no longer has samples of the Freescale MMA7260 3D listed in http://mbed.org/projects/cookbook/wiki/Touchpad (That particular model is also no longer in production.)
There are a few other accelerometers that are similar, but are not exactly the same in sensitivity and frequency and such. What's a good accelerometer to get for this recipe?
