I need help with power-supply options.

06 Nov 2012

Hello all! My next step in my project is purchasing or building a power source for my mbed, sensors and etc.

Power-supply Requirements:

  1. 4 to 6 seperate power outputs:
  • mbed
  • PH Sensor
  • EC Sensor
  • RS232 Multiplexer
  • 2 extra ports for future components?

2. Maybe allow each power out-put to be variable?

Operational Voltages:

  1. mbed: Should I max out the mbed power requirement?
  2. PH sensor: 2.5V to 5.5V - Has wide operating voltage
  3. EC sensor: 5v
  4. RS-232 Multiplexer: 5v

Please list products and/or ideas. I am leaning towards building the power-source pcb that uses an already manufactured DC wallwart because this sounds more of custom power-supply. The first design will be the stepping stone where the number of power out-puts will most likely be increased as more compenents are needed; therefor, I want to build the foundation of the power-source while leaving room for future addons/upgrades.

The cheepes possable is a phone charger,

the output of these can be around 1 Amp !!

and nice and compact.

Please avoid the cheep I-Phony ones, because several Raspberry-Pi's have been killed (very good artical on the Pi website)

or a PSU for a USB hub, mine is capable of 4 Amps.

Hope this was usefull,
