KL25Z rev-E new behavior (serial port, local storage)

15 Mar 2014

Windows serial configuration for FRDM-KL25Z rev-E does not seem to work like rev-D. When plugged for the first time, the device manager shows a misconfigured CDC Serial Port. The regular procedure to install the serial drivers (http://mbed.org/handbook/Windows-serial-configuration) ends up with a "no mbed device found" message.

However after installing the P&E drivers which can be downloaded here: http://www.pemicro.com/downloads/download_file.cfm?download_id=378 (common P&E guys! beeing allowed to download is such a pain in the neck!) everything looks great. Maybe one should update the page.

I have also noticed a new behavior that should be reported on the KL25Z Handbook (http://mbed.org/handbook/mbed-FRDM-KL25Z-Downloading):

  1. With my old rev-D and the regular drivers, every time I copied a prog on the KL25Z, the USB automatically restarted, breaking the active serial communication. Now with rev-E and P&E drivers, it stays connected
  2. The prog is automatically started without having to press reset
  3. The file stays visible after the prog started but disapeared after disconnect/reconnect
