Performance problems with New Mbeds series 55000

Hi
I am experiencing a problem with 4 MBED LPC1768 series MBED-55384 that I recently bought. I have been using older (last year) mbeds for a system we developed for controlling lights with DMX, until now the system gave me a performance of 60fps. Now when we use the new mbeds series 55000 (with a yellow component to the side of the usb port), our fps drops to 20. We are using the same system, the same binary but the performance is much lower. Both PCBs models read 005.1 and are identical beyond the yellow component.
Is there an explanation for the difference in performance between two seemingly identical controllers? Has the firmware on the new boards been changed in any way? What can I do to solve this problem?
