SX126x mbed Component Shield


The SX1261 and SX1262 sub-GHz radio transceivers are ideal for long range wireless applications. Both devices are designed for long battery life with just 4.6mA of active receive current consumption. The SX1261 can transmit up to +15 dBm and the SX1262 can transmit up to +22 dBm with highly efficient integrated power amplifiers. These devices support LoRa® modulation for LPWAN use cases and (G)FSK modulation for legacy use cases. The devices are highly configurable to meet different application requirements utilizing the global LoRaWAN standard or proprietary protocols. The devices are designed to comply with the physical layer requirements of the LoRaWAN specification released by the LoRa Alliance. The device also support high performance (G)FSK modes for systems including WMBus, IEEE802.15.4g. The SX126x delivers exceptional phase noise, selectivity, receiver linearity and IIP3 for significantly lower current consumption than competing devices. The SX126x is intended for applications over a wide frequency range and is providing continuous frequency coverage, including all available sub-GHz frequency bands (168MHz, 433MHz, 470MHz, 780 MHz, 868MHz, 915MHz and 923MHz). The SX126x really offers the possibility of two modems in one single package and complies with both ETSI and FCC regulatory requirements.

LoRa® Modulation


LoRa®, Semtech’s proprietary modulation is a spread-spectrum technique that uses wideband linear frequency modulated pulses to encode information, whose frequency increases or decreases over a certain amount of time. As with other spread-spectrum modulation techniques, LoRa® uses the entire channel bandwidth to broadcast a signal, making it robust to channel noise. In addition, because LoRa® modulation uses a broad band of the spectrum, it is also resistant to long term relative frequency error, multi-path, fading and Doppler effects.


The SX1261MBxAS and SX1262MB1xAS are controlled through the SPI bus at a maximum speed of 16Mbps. The connections are identical on each board so that the same software can used on any boards. All “Pass through” pins are not used in the operations of the SX126xDVK1xAS boards and can therefore be used in connections of other boards for various purposes. The I2C and UART have especially been let free so that a variety of sensor can be connected to the boards, and thus enable long distance control of them.
