Default settings and simple serial comm

Hello all,

I just bought two BLE Nanos, without purchasing the USB dongle. I've since purchased one, but I'm waiting on delivery. I'm wondering, can I test my Nano/get going with the default settings on these boards? Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm a bit lost as all of the RedBear guides seem to assume that you have the USB dongle as well.

For context, I'm trying to establish serial communication from an arduino reading sensor data on SDA/SCL to my iphone.

Thanks very much!
