I think that your description about the reset button could be the problem. At this point is your FRDM-KL25Z still appear to be "BOOTLOADER" without holding the reset button? If it's the case, may be the reset switch on your board is stuck or broken. Could you try push the button several times and see if it still appears to be "BOOTLADER?"

Meantime, it would be nice if you write the host OS, Windows7? Window8.x? Mac OSXs? For my case, currently I can not write FW with Mac OSX (Yosemite) but I can with bootcamped Windows7(64bit).

お書きになられた内容から、リセットボタンが押されっぱなしの状態になっている可能性を疑います。 少し強めに何度か押して「ブートローダ」モードから脱出できるか試されてみてはいかがでしょうか？ もし、それでも「ブートローダ」モードから抜けられない場合スイッチ若しくはボードが壊れているかも知れません。

因みにホスト側のOSは何をご使用でしょうか？ このようなボードに質問を投稿されるときには、ご自分の環境をお書きになった方が 問題がの解決が早くなる可能性が高くなるかと思います。 私の場合、Mac OSX (Yosemite)では FW のアップデートは全く上手くいかず ブートキャンプで Windows7 (64bit) に切り替えて作業を行っております。
