PC resetting when mbed plugged into PC's USB interface.

I am using HP EliteBook running a 32 bit version of the Microsoft XP O/S. When I plug an mbed based on the NXP LPC1768 or based on based or on the FRDM-KL25Z, my computer goes to the blue screen of death. I have not tried the FRDM-KL25Z on my mac at home but I know the LPC1768 does come up without crashing the Apple O/S based machine.

The crash on the windows based machine leaves the following bread crumbs in the BSOD:

* STOP:0x0000008E * nusb3xhc.sys - address B6123000Date Stamp 5b066C36

I am wondering if others struggle with this and if you have any suggestions for fixing/debugging the problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or feedback.

It's the NEC USB 3.0 host driver, and they're known to blow up for no reason whatsoever. Go into the device manager, find your USB 3.0 host controller, and uninstall it. Then download the newest one for your model laptop from HP and install. That usually fixes it.
