Nucleo f74zg will not work

My brand new nucleo board just absolutely will not detect in windows. First time I plugged it into my PC like the instructions said on the back, all I got was a blinking red COM led and no other leds would light up like the box said it would. Windows only gave me a code 43 and unknown device. I jumped the external power jumper and plugged it back in and now the power led would light up and the blue button changed between the red, blue, and green blinking leds like it should. I tried to install the stlink drivers and they installed fine and showed up as something like "avrwindows" and some other device name with stm32 in it in a now forgotten folder in device manager. Still the com led blinked red and stlink complained about no device. I even moved the USB cord into the other one in the back and changed the power jumper from uv5 to e5v and the other 2 and at it never powered up from any combination what so ever. Now when I plug it back in the normal usb it just does not even detect anymore. All I get is the blinking red led. Please help with this as I am pulling my hairs and feel and urge to grab a hammer and smash.

Try this:

  • from the control panel/ device manager uninstall the STLink device
  • uninstall the STLink driver
  • disconnect the Nucleo board
  • reboot the PC
  • reinstall the STLink driver with as explained here
  • put back the jumpers on the nucleo to their original position
    CN4: ON, JP3 on U5V, JP1 OFF, JP5 ON
  • plug the nucleo board
  • upgrade the STLink firmware as described here

And you should be all set
