Auto subscribe when creating new forum topics

If a user has the "Auto Subscribe" option turned on in their account settings, would it be possible to have it auto subscribe to new forum topics when they are created by the user? Currently the auto subscribe only appears to occur when the user posts to an existing forum topic.
